SUMMARY:IAG Scientific Assembly 2025
DESCRIPTION:On behalf of the Department of Physics and Astronomy (DIFA) and the Department of Civil\, Chemical\, Environmental\, and Materials Engineering (DICAM) of the Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna we would like to invite you to attend the IAG 2025 Scientific Assembly\, to be held from 1 to 5 September\, 2025\, in Rimini\, Italy. \nThe theme of the Assembly is “Geodesy for a changing environment” to be developed within the domains of interest of the four IAG Commissions\, namely: Reference Frames\, Gravity Field\, Rotation and Geodynamics\, and Positioning and Applications. \nThe scientific assembly provides a unique opportunity for the international community to meet\, propose and discuss topics where geodetic science plays a considerable role. The theme of the assembly draws geodesists’ attention to impacts of environmental variations/changes\, increasingly severe extreme events of different nature and to developing strategies apt to capture the onset of abrupt changes in the Earth system. \nWe are looking forward to receiving your important contributions and to welcoming you in Rimini for the IAG 2025 Scientific Assembly.

SUMMARY:IAU Symposium 401
DESCRIPTION:Reference systems and their standardization are of paramount importance to many fields of astronomy. Some examples are the reduction of ground-based observations\, space astrometry\, astrophysics missions\, and space missions to solar system planetary bodies and beyond. \nThe concept of a reference system and its realization requires the convergence of reference frames\, ephemeris\, and time scales to be developed respecting associated standards\, thus fulfilling one of the IAU strategic goals as the provider of astronomical standards and their use. \nThe symposium ADVANCING REFERENCE SYSTEMS\, EPHEMERIS AND STANDARDS\, supported by the INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION (IAU)\, will be a forum to discuss the latest results and prospects in this field as well as to facilitate the coordination of common standards across agencies and organizations. \nThe symposium will be held in a hybrid format at the National University of La Plata (UNLP) in Argentina\, August 4-9\, 2025\, to promote and strengthen the cooperation between the Latin-American region research community and scientists from other parts of the world. It will also provide an opportunity to stimulate the teaching and learning of astronomy among local communities through the planned educational activities.

SUMMARY:Switch to IGb20 Reference Frame
DESCRIPTION:As announced in IGSMAIL-8542\, a first update of ITRF2020 called ITRF2020-u2023 was released last week. The IGS intends to adopt this update\, in the form of a new IGS reference frame called IGb20\, for the alignment of its products\, starting with the products of GPS week 2352 (2 February 2025).\n\nIGb20 is a simple extract from ITRF2020-u2023. It includes reference coordinates for 343 stable\, well-performing\, operational and historical IGS stations. The same 332 stations as in the current IGS reference frame\, IGS20\, were retained. 11 new stations were added in areas currently sparsely covered by IGS reference frame stations.\n\n\nThe IGb20 files are available for download at ftp://igs-rf.ign.fr/pub/IGb20:\n– IGb20.snx.gz   : IGb20 SINEX file (gzip compressed)\n– IGb20.ssc      : IGb20 SINEX file without covariance matrix\n– psd_IGb20.snx  : post-seismic deformation models to be used with IGb20\n– soln_IGb20.snx : discontinuity list to be used with IGb20\n– IGb20_core.txt : list of “core” stations recommended for the alignment of global solutions to IGb20\n\nSince ITRF2020-u2023 is aligned in origin\, scale and orientation to ITRF2020\, IGb20 should not be considered as a complete new reference frame\, but rather as an update to individual IGS20 station coordinates. This alignment implies that the transformation parameters between ITRF2020 (IGS20) and ITRF2020-u2023 (IGb20) are all zero. It also implies that the switch from IGS20 to IGb20 will not introduce any significant “datum” change in the IGS products. On the other hand\, the precision and accuracy of the alignment of the IGS products to the reference frame will benefit from the adoption of updated reference station coordinates.\n\nMore details on the usage of the IGb20 reference frame may be found in the comment section of the SINEX file.

SUMMARY:Robust Orbit Combination Software
DESCRIPTION:Geoscience Australia is proud to announce the release of the Robust Orbit Combination Software (ROCS) as open source!\n\nThe software is designed to support the International GNSS Service (IGS) and is another step towards realizing a fully multi-GNSS IGS. ROCS combines multi-GNSS orbit products using a robust algorithm and allows several weighting algorithms.\n\nPlease feel free to explore the software and provide your feedback either via the GitHub page or by contacting acc at igs.org. You may also contribute to the software via the same communication channels.
