International Association of Geodesy (IAG)
Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS)

The International GNSS Service (IGS) is a service of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG). The IAG is a scientific organization that promotes scientific cooperation and research in geodesy on a global scale, and contributes to it through its various research bodies. It is an active member of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG).

The IAG Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS) works with the IAG components to provide the geodetic infrastructure necessary for monitoring the Earth system and for global change research. It provides observations of the three fundamental geodetic observables and their variations, that is, the Earth’s shape, the Earth’s gravity field and the Earth’s rotational motion.

World Data System

International Science Council (ISC)
World Data System (WDS)

The IGS is a Network Member of the ISC World Data System (WDS). As an ISC Interdisciplinary Body, the mission of the World Data System is to support the ISC’s vision by promoting long-term stewardship of, and universal and equitable access to, quality-assured scientific data and data services, products, and information across all disciplines in the Natural and Social Sciences, and the Humanities. WDS aims to facilitate scientific research under the ISC umbrella by coordinating and supporting trusted scientific data services for the provision, use, and preservation of relevant datasets, while strengthening their links with the research community.

International Federation of Surveyors

International Federation of Surveyors (FIG)

The International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) Commission 5 focuses on meeting the highest level of accuracy for Positioning and Measurement for the worldwide professional surveyor community. It provides the tools, techniques and procedures to educate and train surveying professionals everywhere. Appropriate methodology for data collection and processing are required to be successful in an era of global, integrated geospatial data.

FIG was founded in 1878 and is a United Nations and World Bank recognized non-governmental organization of national member associations, cadastral and mapping agencies and ministries, universities and corporates from over 120 countries/regions. FIG covers the whole range of professional fields within the global surveying community, hereunder surveying, cadastre, valuation, mapping, geodesy, geospatial, and quantity surveyors and provides an international forum for discussion and development aiming to promote professional practice and standards.

United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management

United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management (GGIM)

IGS engages with diverse organizations, outside of the immediate precise GNSS community, that have an interest in geodetic applications of GNSS. Notably, the IGS has supported the development of the Global Geodetic Reference Frame (GGRF) resolution, roadmap, and implementation plan within the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management (GGIM) Committee of Experts and its Subcommittee on Geodesy.

ICG International Committee on Global Navigation Satellite Systems

International Committee on GNSS (ICG)

The IGS also works with the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) International Committee on GNSS (ICG) to develop common understandings of the requirements for multiple system monitoring through a joint pilot project with the ICG’s International GNSS Monitoring and Assessment (IGMA) subgroup. IGS also co-chairs the ICG Working Group on Reference Frames, Timing, and Applications.
